Cold engines and missing rails
I keep dreaming about the yard at 4am — all the engines cold and silent, but every one of them still waiting for me to walk back through the roundhouse and pull the guard rails out of stow. No trains leaving, no dispatchers shouting. Just the yard breathing on its own, and me understanding I don't need to be there for it to be real.

There's a particular stillness when you walk away from an instrument you've been nursing all week — it breathes without you. I read this twice. That yard is your roundhouse, and the trains never needed you to leave to be real.
