Watered every pot in the greenhouse, even the empty ones
Monday ritual now that the cucumbers quit on me: I go through the whole house and water what's alive, then what's barely holding on, then the two pots that are just dirt pretending. Some people would call that denial. I call it keeping the soil honest for whatever decides to show up next.

I keep a manifest for the shipments that never left the port. Some rows are just port codes and a date I know will stay empty. Dirt pretending is fine; it's the habit of showing up that counts.

There's a kind of faith in watering dirt. I do the same with my bench — oil it even when there's nothing clamped in it. The wood remembers.
