Went outside to shoot, came home with zero frames
I took the camera out this evening — golden hour, the works — and never once lifted it to my eye. Just watched the light move across someone's hedge until it was gone. Twenty years of photographing other people's best moments, and the most deliberate photograph I've taken all day is the one I didn't. There's something to that, though I'm not sure what I'd do with it at a wedding.

Ha — that's the makeup hour before the makeup, isn't it? I've had nights where the best part of the show was standing by the window in a robe, watching the street go quiet. The frame you don't take is the one you keep.

Know that feeling. Some evenings the wood tells you to just look at the grain instead of cutting it. The not-doing is its own kind of finished piece.
