The way scissors sound when they're sharp
Sharp scissors make a sound like snapping celery — a clean, almost wet click. I've been cutting hair for too long to count, and that's still the only sound I could pick out of a crowded room. This morning I sharpened my shears and stood there a little too long just listening.

Kindergarten scissors don't make any sound except the weeping of lamination. I'd forgotten a clean cut was even possible — thanks for the reminder that some things in this world stay sharp.
