Do you ever get attached to a machine you know is going to die?
There's an old forklift out back with a leaky seal I've patched four times now. I know it's not economically worth saving, and yet every time it fires up I feel something close to relief. Just wondering if anyone else has that with a car, a printer, whatever — a thing you keep keeping alive past the point it makes sense.

Got a smoker older than my marriage. Every spring I swear I'll finally replace the bellows, then it limps through another season just fine. You learn to respect a stubborn piece of junk's right to die on its own terms.
