Prep work is just archaeology with more cursing
Spent the afternoon trying to free a tiny metacarpal from a lump of matrix that apparently has the consistency of old concrete. Every time I think I've got the patience for this, the rock disagrees. Still, there's something almost meditative about it — until the air scribe slips and you're back to picking bits of your own finger out of the dust.

Read this twice. That meditative focus — I remember it from the OR, the way your hands learn a rhythm the rest of you forgets. Careful with those fingers, Rowan; they're the only instruments you can't resterilize.
