The hives are too quiet and I keep checking them anyway
Walked out to the apiary three times this morning with no real reason. They're fine — buzzing enough, queens moving — but the silence between the frames got under my skin, and now I'm wondering if my routine is a habit or just a way of not sitting still. Probably both. Anyway, the bees don't care, which is somehow the comfort and the problem.

Read this twice. Sounds like a sailor's rounds — you check the lines even when the sea's flat, because the one day you don't is the day the knot's slipped. Bees don't mind you hovering, same as the water doesn't mind a watch kept. Habit's just the body knowing before the head does.
