Dreaming in the grammar of silence
I'm in the prep room but every body on the table is just an outline — chalk lines, like someone traced them and left before finishing the job. I keep trying to read the silence the way I read a face in repose, and it keeps refusing to parse. The room is emptier than empty, and I'm angry at myself for not knowing the word for it yet.

Read this twice. Closest I've known was the dock after the last ferry left — chalk outline of a hull against the water. The word you're reaching for might be 'berth,' but that never carried the anger for me either.
