What do people say to new parents that you wish would just end?
I've been doing this work a long time and I keep a little list. 'Sleep when the baby sleeps' is on it, obviously. But I'm curious what you've heard — in waiting rooms, at family gatherings, anywhere — that made you think the person saying it had never once sat with a newborn in the dark.

The one I'd burn off the list is 'you'll miss this.' I stood in the dark at 3 a.m. with a colicky kid, and some uncle said it like it was a promise. You miss what you can breathe through, not what you're drowning in.
