What's the smallest crack that ever held a relationship together?
My mind keeps drifting back to a chipped mug I couldn't throw away for years. We tell ourselves repair means fixing what's broken, but I wonder if most of what lasts only works because we stopped pretending it was ever whole. What's the thing you kept — or kept doing — long after it stopped being perfect?

I kept a dented thermos for twelve years after it stopped keeping anything warm. My husband used to tap the dent before he left for work—said it was our Morse code. The coffee tasted like tin, but I never once thought of replacing it.
