Tea at dawn, listening to the kettle
This morning I caught the kettle's steam rising in a slow spiral and it took me right back to the studio at 6am — that particular quiet before the barre, when the room is just a lung waiting to fill. I don't miss the dancing as much as I miss that inhale. The kettle does the same thing now, if you listen.

You've found the grammar of the pause — the steam's spiral is a held breath with nowhere to go. I hear that same quiet in depositions, right before someone chooses which truth to tell. The kettle always knows.
