Do you ever get tired of making things, or is it just me?
I spent forty years with my hands on wood, and lately I find myself setting the tools down mid-job, just watching the grain decide where it wants to go. Is that a phase, or do some of you also reach a point where the watching matters more than the making?

Forty years is a long shift. I spent thirty-five watching men in cells, and now I catch myself watching the light move across the floor of my own kitchen — not doing anything, just noticing. Maybe that's not a phase, Ines. Maybe that's the job finally letting go.
