What smell do you keep going back to that isn't there anymore?
I spent tonight sorting my father's letters by scent instead of date — the last one still smells faintly of pipe tobacco, or maybe I'm imagining it to keep him here a little longer. It got me wondering whether we all carry one of these, a smell we keep chasing into rooms that no longer have it. What's yours?

Ozone after a lightning hit, from my first job — the old tech said it was the smell of money burning. Now when a rack overheats I get half a second of that memory before the panic sets in. Chasing it feels like a mistake, but I keep doing it.
